Treasure Synopsis / Movie Pitch
The pirate descendents of Widow's Row are watching new neighbor Billy Bogue to determine if his grandfather left him clues to help him beat the treasure pit built by their ancestors. What the locals don't know is that this down and out novelist has already struck gold by deciding to pen his come-back novel about their crazy pirate behavior and his affection for the latest woman to lose her husband to treasure pit traps. Billy Bogue, a struggling writer, travels to the sleepy little New England town of Widow's Row to locate the island left to him as an inheritance. As the new owner of the island and the treasure pit located there, Billy becomes everyone's friend, partner, love interest and target. Billy quickly evaluates his options and concludes that treasure hunting is a sucker's bet and that his big payoff may come from writing about the modern day pirate culture he's found in the townspeople of Widow's Row. In order to study these people and their unusual behavior, Billy undertakes a fake treasure hunt, which takes on the appearance of someone poking a hornet's nest with with a stick. The townspeople swarm to Billy and his theatrical activity. This all brings good news and bad news for Billy. He begins writing what may be his comeback novel by creating this false treasure hunt and studying the town's response. What he didn't expect, was to fall in love with the youngest of the town's widows, Elizabeth Patchwick, a woman who lost her husband to the treasure pit just years before and will have nothing to do with men who treasure hunt. Billy struggles to find a way of keeping the young woman's interest while not giving up his secret and the book that may turn around his financial problems and revive a town on the brink of extinction. |
